This is well-written, and I especially liked the twist of the narrator's role in the story. It was a little frustrating at times that I didn't seem to have the dialogue option I wanted, but then at the end the reasoning for that was made clear. Nice work!

I liked the art style and the music as well. The puzzles hit the sweet spot of being interesting but not overly difficult. Overall, great job!

Thank you very much!

I fully agree that some game mechanics need to be more polished to clarify a bit more, why you cannot choose certain options etc. I will think about a subtle way to make this not so frustrating for the user. Thanks for the feedback!

Very unique and polished game for this time frame! Impressive work, I really enjoyed playing it once I found out how to get to use the first item I found. Also the music brought a nice atmosphere to the game. Great work!

Thank you for the kind words! And thank you for playing! :)

Love these kinds of point and click adventures. The art was wonderful. The story was well put together. And the twist was great as well! Interactions with the environment were satisfying. Would have liked to see more things being done with the spells in the game but you guys have done a very good job!

  • Thinks I liked:
    • The pixel art is amazing!
    • The music and setting blend well together.
    • Love the twist at the end. Freaked me out for a second. Well done!
    • You have done excellent world building through the dialogue. Especially the dialogue that isn't about the main story but more the character describing things in the world.
  • Things that could be improved:
    • There is a bug where you cannot use the ring of wood on the spider web even when the spider is gone. It seems that you have to collect the spider leg first before you can use the ring.
    • Given that there are variations in what dialogue you can choose, I would have liked to have seen alternative endings. It seems that you can only reach the "good" twist ending no matter what you choose. That seems to me like the choices I make when speaking don't really affect the outcome of the story.
    • Would have loved to see more things done with the spells and spell crafting in the story.

Thank you for the detailed review :)

  • Not being able to grab the net if the leg is still on it was intentional but a bad design decision of me. I should have either made it so that the leg falls off when you capture the net or it is automatically captured with it or I should have placed the leg on another spot to not double the net interaction there. I think that is also a problem on the fly and the berries but there it is more obvious that you cannot reach the berries without having the fly away.
  • Originally - of course - the plan was to add a lot more screens and puzzles. With that, there was the idea to give the player different options on how to solve problems depending on its alignment (good, evil, neutral). This would then be reflected in the choices at the end. So basically a bad ending and another ending were planned but ... time :) . With more screens there would have been more puzzles and more spell crafting.

I do think there is the chance, that I will expand the game in a bigger one after adding the voice acting.

Thanks  for playing it again!

I really liked the point-and-click gameplay here! Figuring out how to do the spell was a fun little puzzle to solve. Also, I don’t want to spoil anything, but I thought the choice at the end was super interesting!

Thank you! I'm glad it worked the way it was intended ;)

Nice job capturing that old school adventure game vibes. It could have benefitted from better messages when you fail to complete an action. Like, i spent a while trying to get the cobweb before the spider left, and it wasn’t clear to me that that was what was stopping me.

First: thank you for playing!

Yes the Web  puzzle seems to be the most problematic point for everyone playing. After playtests I added hint texts to when picking up the ringwood and clicking on the fly as well as adding an optical hint to the title screen but sometimes one simply needs to be more direct. I will add a text to the web hinting directly to the ringwood after the jam!

Thank you!

Thank you! How difficult did you find the puzzles? In especially the one with the spider web?
