I really struggled with the platforming, didn't find any of the masks but I suck at this kind of thing so take that with a pinch of salt! Anyway really impressive how you guys managed to make this in just 3 days

You must run fast or else the monster will get you. Each mask you collect increases the monster's speed.

So I got to the top of a tower that required some pretty complex platforming, collected a mask, saw another mask and went to get it, and then I died. Turns out the other mask was the monster 馃槀
I would agree with the thing about checkpoints, doing those challenges is too difficult to want to redo them again and again just because you messed up a jump later on. But if I knew that once I'd done one part that progress was saved, then I'd feel more comfortable continuing on and trying the rest of the level.
Hahaha, you gotta watch out for Rumpulus 馃懝. Yeah the game is quite challenging, it's kind of a trial and error type of game where you have to find the best routes and shortcuts. An easier mode would be cool to implement however! When you do finally get the 4th mask, you feel like a super hero, so I suggest you keep trying! 馃槃
I feel like checkpoints would kind of ruin the game. I think what makes this great is that you have to take the time to learn the entire map for your sun run. it is far too easy to just find one mask, the challenge is combining all the mask runs into one big one. To do that you have to plan out your path and learn the intricate details of the map, and that is where the sense of achievement comes from. If you ever do add checkpoints, please just make sure they are optional.
Oh yeah for sure, if this was a full game then you'd want people to replay it to gain that mastery, but for a jam game it's going to be hard to convince people to spend that long, especially when they have a hundred or more other games.
Usually it's a good idea to let players experience the whole game in about 5 minutes, with maybe more to do if they end up really loving it.
But also there is no mandate to make a game that works especially well in a jam setting! it's just as valid to make something more like a full game, the only drawback being that most the people rating it won't see all of it.
I really like the idea of dodging shadows and the atmosphere of your world, but there were a couple of gameplay things that held it back, in my opinion:
Some sort checkpointing would be hugely appreciated. I'm not saying you can't make the player go back to the start, but maybe let them keep the objectives they have gotten already?
The shadows were too erratic. The only good option was to avoid shadow areas completely. I think you could have some fun timing challenges and pattern observation if the shadows moved more consistently.
Otherwise, this is great :)
This is just unfathomable how this was made in 3 days. Everything here is on point. The unique meso-america visuals, the amazing music track, the detailed map design, the feel of the movement, the challenge, the horrifying masks, and that interminable swaying back and forth of the sun and shadows. I mean this is just so unbelievable good! This may be the only game here i will return to keep playing because i want to beat it. Full marks on all categories!
