Beautiful read! I especially love the framing of being in a storytelling competition with stakes-- I can't wait to play this so I can see for myself how the character behind the story frames the story. I also love your questions. In particular, "How bad do I need this win?" and "What does tarot mean to me?" hit me pretty hard.

Why have I never considered the Canterbury Tales in the context of games? It's such a good thematic grounding for this! And the imagery of the tarot is a great way to inject inspiration/information into the game without being too leading or insistent. Lovely!
A pilgrimage is such an odd thing, isn't it? I imagine the destination hangs over the journey, and creates such a gulf of potential disappointment at the end. What if it's different than you wanted or expected? Or worse: what if you arrive and... nothing happens? It's almost like telling a story without knowing the end, or like making art.
Thank you so much for this game! I really enjoyed reading it, and I look forward to trying it out with my friends.
