I really like the atmosphere of this map thanks to the lighting and weather ambience. Really solidified that I do not want to be caught.
The layout of the map is well designed so I never got lost and If I were to try, I could easily do a ghost run and never interact with the guards due to the placement of spots to hide.
My favourite section was getting to the top of the guard tower and being given a powerful new weapon to clear the courtyard (It was especially satisfying after dying to some of the jank in the previous run related to melee combat).
Admittedly, I didn't understand the storytelling you had in mind for the level until I saw your post on your discord post which explains a lot of what the environmental storytelling was trying to convey (It basically went over my head and I wasn't fast enough to catch it.) That said, it's an excellent way to tackling both themes of the Jam.
Only gripes I had are primarily aimed at the the Ai, controls and the combat which are to expected from a Game Jam with limited time. That aside, excellent work!
I'm not really sure how to review this but I'll try to avoid coming across too harshly. As you pointed out, there's no objective to the map so it's basically a sandbox currently with lots of buildings you can enter and start fights in.
I did figure out how to change your avatar and the videos showed you can interact with parts of the environment but without the objectives / game design, the large map seems like a deathmatch arena since I could do was frag the existing npcs. And I'm not sure how the map relates to the theme if it's supposed to be.
I don't want to be entirely negative as there suburb areas are well done and resemble a neighbourhood. I do like that there are bouncepads scattered around that allow you to reach higher places or send you to the other side of the map.
However in it's current state, it's more of a proof of concept for something bigger and more fleshed out. I guess the biggest takeaway is that it's a prototype that just needs more time to cook. I wish I could say more positive things but the project is in such a early state at the moment that it's a bit directionless.
The good thing though is that will change as you develop your project further so keep at it!
Admittedly, I'm not the best at Puzzle games so my opinions may differ to others who enjoy them. That said though, I enjoyed that the level was a easy navigation puzzle that reintroduced me back to Portals mechanics after not playing the game for several years.
Puzzles were not hard like you say but they were engaging enough to want to continue traversing through the interconnected environment.
