Identidad/Identity
The game was inspired by Janitizio an island in Lake Pátzcuaro in the state of Michoacán, Mexico. My(Bryanna) family is from Pátzcuaro and we would always go to this is island and have fond memories . My grandfather is a fishmerman which this island is known for. For Janitizio the people celebrate dia de los muertos go through candle lit boats and usually sleep in the graveyard. We used this as inspiration for the main concept of going to a spirtual realm guided by candles. It's a really unique island that is designed by going up ,as it is built on steps . Visitors come to reach the top of the island where there is a 40-meter statue of José María Morelos that you can also climb to the top. We took this as a metroidvania style room exploration as you ascend to the top of the island. Overall, we were inspired by this and the many unique aspects of this island for our setting and framing. Throughout the game we weave elements of our culture and memories throughout from our backgrounds (Pátzcuaro - Bryanna) and (CDMX - Alejandro) and living in the U.S. We took the theme to challenge ourselves with sound , as to not use eyes but different senses and themes of disconnction, multigenerational memories, memories across built environment all resonant in our game and with the theme.

We used SFX and some basic art assets from our previous jams but pretty much everything is made from scratch!
