First of all, I am really exited for this game jam, this is my first for an actual company.

Second, there is nothing in the rules against AI for idea bouncing and code help, so are we allowed to use AI as long as it’s not making textures and assets for us?

I am not saying I will have AI do all the coding or have AI come up with the complete idea, just help refining my idea and help if I got stuck on my code.

I remember my first game jam I spent like 10 hours debugging my gun mechanic and it would have been great to have some AI help.

This is up to yourself honestly, there's really no way for us to even check whether AI was used in the process of creating your game jam entry. It's indeed prohibited to use generative AI for images or audio, since the spirit of the game jam is to use pre-made game assets. So it's up to your own judgement whether you'd like to get some help from AI!
