Very cool concept. I loved the rising and lowering balloon while shooting. It kept me active in navigating as well as tracking enemies.

I did end up just staying in the balloon almost the whole time. The few times I venture out I'd end up dying, or the balloon would crash, so I just stayed in the balloon. Maybe a tutorial level where you learn how to fly out, and reenter the balloon without the stakes of dying, would be helpful. And same with the grappling hook. I shot it once at an enemy and then it didn't work after... so I just assumed it was a one use thing. 

Overall though. It was a fun play through, and again, the rising balloon concept was awesome.

This game was soooo much fun, but I couldn't figure out how to get the grapple to work.

These are my notes:

  • Shop/upgrade menu: I had no idea about this until I accidentally pressed the ESC key, and it opened! WHOA.
  • The bubble that shows where the hot air balloon is when it is off-screen should be larger in my opinion
  • Not obvious how to use/does grapple work
  • Lot added for the time constraint, but tutorial would have helped a lot. Mostly knowing about shop, how to use grapple, etc.
  • Would like a chill phase initially when the game loads to get used to flying and such
  • Not sure if I fly too high it cause the meteorites and if I am supposed to just jet pack around them
  • Would be nice if the hot air balloon could crash in the water and I don't lose the game. I think it might be possible to get to a point where the jetpack is infinite fuel.

This game has a lot of legs!!

Yeahh, one of my mistakes was not having a tutorial that introduces the shop or basic player mechanics. It really shows me how important having a tutorial is, as without it, the player can go through the whole game not realizing certain features and mechanics even exists. Major mistake from my part!

The grapple was added in last minute, as I wanted to add even more to the game, but I knew I wouldnt have time the whole last day of the jam. Its definitely not polished and Im not really happy with it. The way it works is that you have to aim the mouse in the direction of the object you want to grapple to (either baloon or an enemy) and continue to hold C all the way through - kind of terrible from an user experience standpoint, but I really wanted to get it done by the end of the jam 😅. 

My idea was that the player would have to balance the baloon as not to go too low (sink) and not to go too high (face potential danger of meteors killing you), so stay somewhere in between and be safe. All of that while facing the danger of more and more enemies charging at you. Perhaps the meteors were a bit too easy to dodge?
