  • The maggots SFX made my skin crawl! I could almost feel it when I listened to it. I agree with the other comments, the Territory is effective for indicating completeness of a goal/activity. The ability acquired is efficient as well, and is different enough from the territory that you would know that different actions were completed.
  • All three are nice - Ability Acquired is a little....dark? I'd like it to maybe rise at the end, or have some forward motion (pitch shifted reverse cymbal or something) to make it more celebratory. But not too much! Just a little nudge in the direction. I have question on implementation - the Alien Swarm - would this happen all the time? Or is this only when deploying or used as a short sample when a territory is taken? Because if this were constant - I think it could be distracting a bit. Food for thought! Thanks!!

- Holy hell that Alien Swarm SFX is TERRIFYING!!! Fantastic job on it! The chittering, the crunching, everything about it chilled me to the bone... and it was perfect.
- I liked the ability acquired sound too! It definitely sounds like I just obtained some new dark magic.
- The drums in the conquering territory sound are also great! Reminds me of the sound for conquering a city in Spore City Stage, haha.

Sorry I do not have any constructive criticism for this one, it is all just so good! Haha. If you meant to submit a music piece, it is not here! If not, that is okay too, but just in case something went wrong.

Great job on this!

Thanks a ton! I'm really glad you enjoyed my submission (even though I uploaded a tad late). No music this time :/ a lot of personal stuff got in the way that prevented me from doing it, so I just focused on what I could in the time I had. Thanks for the heads up!

My thoughts --

  • The territory conquered FX is short and effective. The drums and the swoosh together tell us that the area has been turned and it is a short signal of triumph.
  • The ability acquired FX is effective, but a touch grating on the upper mids (and, if I were not listening to this on low volume I would have recoiled).
  • The alien swarm FX is terrifying. I agree with Doug below me; he's said pretty much everything I could have said on this and I would say that of the three, this is your best.

I sense that you're straight up going dark and edgy and horror with this, and these FX do well to inform prospective devs about the direction the game should take just on their own. Well done.

All the very best in the jam!

Noted on the 'ability acquired' sfx. I'll keep the upper mids thing in mind for future designs as I know I tend to design very bright.  Thanks for the constructive criticism and positive comments!

Your swarm sound is as though a festering flesh-eating wound could express excitement to the ones it is eating. Visceral, and terrifying. I don't even want to listen to it twice.

I like the drums especially in the territory conquest sound, but all the layers work well together to convey the meaning.

The ability acquired sound the first part is a little grating to my ears, and goes on for a tad too long before the drop off.

Thanks for the feedback, Doug! I appreciate you taking the time to listen to my submission :) I've noted your comment on the 'ability acquired' sound and will keep that in mind for future sound design stuffs
