The combat was definitely very well thought out and implemented, and while I never quite got a hang of it, overall it was impressive! I liked the concept of teleportation and the idea of changing the way you swing your sword. Though, i did have some issues with how much the camera would move, and if my attempts to block attacks were succesful. Overall, I think there is a lot of potential in the mechanics you built here and I would be really interested to see what could happen if you had more time to polish and sharpen them. Good job!
This is really impressive! I really love how the combat works! The level design is also quite intuitive, i never questioned where i needed to go (i didn't even notice the quest marker for a while because i never got to the point of needing it). I'd recommend moving the potions and knives that start behind you forward a bit, so the level keeps flowing in the right direction, but otherwise everything is in an intuitive spot!
My biggest suggestions would be to lock the the camera position while holding melee attacking, so the player isn't flailing their head around in combat, and to switch up the controls slightly (maybe left click melee, right click block, and shift, or middle click for the knives), I personally had a hard time using the block on middle click
I did not get very far into the game, as I'm trying to review as many games as possible to give exposure to less reviewed games, but I will definitely come back to this before voting is over to experience more of the game (and I'll update my review accordingly)
Before you jump in, read this!
For combat, you need to learn the system, and once you master it enemies go down easily. Swipe your mouse when you strike with your sword to slice in the direction you choose - this can be important for hitting enemies.
Enemies will almost always block your hits when they can, but they do also dodge away, which they do immediately before attacking you. This telegraphs the attack, and you can then time a parry (block (MMB) at the right timing), which stuns the enemy and opens them up to rapid, uninterrupted attacks.
It is also possible to hit enemies mid action, such as during longer attacks of theirs, when they are dodging, etc.
Getting hit always breaks your block, so you have to remain vigilant.
So long as you keep moving, keep dodging, keep blocking, and pay close attention, you can win these fights - but only with your skill; the game does not hold your hand.
Electric daggers instantly stun the enemy to open them up, so keep them on hand if you find any. There's a cache of throwing daggers on a table behind you in level 1 when you spawn. Shadow daggers do a lot of damage and disintegrate the body so other enemies can't see it, but they're rare.
Good luck, and have fun!
