Jam Host

The wait is finally over. Now , everyone can see their rankings on their itch page. We apologize for the delay as all entries were manually ranked and we had limited work capacity to go through all of the games ! A point to be noted here : Only those games are rated which filled the mandatory form. For any other question feel free to ask in the community. Thank you!

PS: Priority rankings were given to those teams who visiting campus for showcase.

The amount of work required to host a jam like this is truly appreciated. However, there was no prior mention of the specifics regarding priority rankings for participants who were present on-site. As a result, developers who thought they were competing fairly eventually felt demoralized.

A separate category for in-person and online participants would have been preferable, but it would have been much better if this had been part of the jam's criteria section on the main page.

I live in Haryana, so I can't make the trip to Guwahati for a showcase alone. It feels unfair to outside developers who participated in good faith because this system essentially only indirectly promotes the projects of your own institute.

It was mentioned in the jam page that it will be held @IIT Guwahati, prior arrangements would have been appreciated. But, You make a fair point.  I tried to make separate categories for everyone but according to itch.io policy, one cannot change/add/remove ranking categories after jam submissions were over, which was a part that we overlooked and we sincerely apologise. Left were the 3 categories for us to judge, now it wouldn’t have been fair for those people who travelled long distances to visit our campus and see different results from Round 2. So, we decided it to settle on giving priority ‘rankings’ .

I appreciate you outlining the circumstances. I recognize the difficulties and value your openness. Future jams should be able to better balance fairness for both on-site and remote participants, I hope.
