I really enjoyed this game, despite probably not playing this in the intended way. I get this feeling that this was never really tested with max mouse DPI (I could circle the entire map just by drawing a 1-inch diameter circle with my mouse) so it was a bit of a learning curve not to get immediately eaten by bigger fish. Eventually I got good at dodging between fish, enough that I never really used the dash, since just doing it with the mouse meant more control. I assume that the presence of the left-click to dodge mechanic means that doing precision dodges with the mouse is unintended. I did actually use the dash a few times though and it was fun. The other explicitly stated mechanic, right-click to inhale, felt kind of weak enough that it was the main cause of my death (due to the length of the animation and the vulnerability of the player character during this animation) until I stopped trying to use it. I'd also suggest having a toggle for cursor visibility during gameplay because I had no idea what direction I was going at first.

As for the music, it's very well composed. My only nitpick with it is that there's nothing particular about it that says "this is music from a fish-related game" to me, only that it is good arcade game music (side note, you forgot to import as loop). I noticed that the main theming of the game is tropical reefs- there's tropical reef backgrounds, it's a bunch of islands, there's tropical fish. It'd be nice if the composer had used instruments like steel drums, the xylophone, or certain synths typically associated with island levels or water levels to invoke that kind of "oh, this is a water level" feel. I personally (when I'm not scrambling to compose something) like to listen to compilations of music related to the theme before deciding what and how to compose something, with the goal of gaining some inspiration as well as getting an idea of the overall feel of what components contribute to this feel, such as what instruments are used, the level of complexity, the type of scale (major, minor, pentatonic, etc.), and the time signature. Of course, the goal isn't to just take all the best parts of those songs, but to understand what works, and either building upon that or subverting expectations for a unique twist.

Last note. The bonus room was kinda funny. Reminds me of oxygen bars.

Great game - is it inspired by "Feeding Frenzy" by any chance? :D Had lots of fun with this game (like I also had with Feeding Frenzy in the past).

The backgrounds of the first two levels were a little bit distracting, because it also had a lot of fish, making it hard to distinguish between "real" fish and background fish - this was especially the case for the first background. Sometimes I had the feeling that bigger fish spawned already inside of the map and not outside of it which resulted in an insta-death for me - I mean in the end it's my fault for staying too far at the border, but still.

The turning felt a little bit strange to me, maybe because of the pivot point where your tail just flips around. I never used the dash, because I felt that it didn't really increase my speed and thus didn't help me - you also could move really fast by just using the mouse, maybe some clamping would be good there.

The third level was pretty challenging, but had lots of fun beating it. It always feels so satisfying when you reach the biggest size and then can just gulp everything away.

EDIT: Oh, didn't talk about the audio. The music and also the sounds were also very great and fitting to the feel of the game.

Yes! The game is FF clone :D . Well tried to copy but it's harder than I thought lol, I may have overestimated myself.

I'll take note on the background (damn google image can't give me a good background. jk!).

I checked the big fish spawning. I think I've put the spawn point too close to the edge. I have adjusted the points further so now they shouldn't spawn within the player's area. The pivot is experimental 😅 I tried putting the pivot on the mouth instead of the body coz I thought it felt more natural to follow the head, i think?  Which probably isn't right. Thank you for your input on it. It might not be a good game design in general.

Dash, oh man, I thought I already fixed the max speed. I bet it's a code problem, I'm trying to look into it but... well it might take a while.

I appreciate this feedback lots n lots!!! Plenty to fix and update. I'll be sure to try giving quality feedback to your game too. Thank you for playing our game!

Beautiful music and nice sound effects. You nailed the fish-like movement with the dashes really well, the only thing is that sometimes the dash direction would be quite unpredictable and have me dashing straight to be eaten by a bigger fish. Nice game!

I'll have to optimize the dash, still trying to figure things out. Thank you for the feedback and playing our game! Our composer would be delighted by your compliments :D

Happy to read that the music is enjoyed!

Hey this game really brought back some long stashed away memories for me. It was a lot of fun, and the music is great! I do think though that the images should be higher res though, it's quite noticeable.

Oh man, it's awesome seeing someone who knows that game! We'll try to find a better background after the jam. Last hour rush is no good at all. Thank you for playing our game!
