Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 7! My name's Hythrain and I'm one of the hosts and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!
So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.
So when I first saw the name and look of this, I honestly thought I'd be in for some classic Mickey Mouse stuff going on. I was a little saddened when there didn't seem to anything to a 1920s cartoon aesthetic, let alone some classic Mickey Mouse thing. If you plan to do more with this, you need to dig into that 1920s cartoon aesthetic.
Meanwhile, as a shooter I think its biggest flaws are needing something to tell you the fastest way to any remaining planes once you get down to the last one or two and not giving the player the same level of control over their shots as the planes get, especially when you're talking an alien spacecraft to early aviation planes. I think instead of using two sets of keyboard controls, why not make shooting and aiming be on the mouse? Keep the WASD keys but drop the arrow keys. This will not only give the player more control over shooting, it'll fit better with the game's concept AND likely feel more comfortable for shooting and aiming.
Lastly, in regards to Twitch integration, there should be more time when choosing a reward. Sometimes people can be 10, 15, even 20 seconds behind the streamer. What I'd recommend is making it at least 30 seconds, with a timer clearly shown on screen saying how much longer, then putting some feedback into the game to show votes coming in.
I hope to see this worked on some more!
Hi there. Thank you so much for playing my game! I already checked your Youtube channel but I guess the VOD where you play my game is not on there yet? Definitely let me know when you have it up. I'm looking forward to see somebody play my game.
Btw, you can in fact aim and fire you weapon using the mouse. You just need to hold down left mouse button, the mouse aiming cursor will appear and you'll shooting. I know I did not make it very clear in-game. I did consider having the mouse aiming cursor visible by default. I guess that would make trying out the left mouse button more intuitive. But I thought having the cursor visible would be visual noise if you are shooting with arrows keys, or using a controller and playing with the thumbstick. Maybe I should have made it so the cursor is visible by default and disappears when firing with arrow keys or using a mouse, rather be invisible by default and only appear when moving the mouse and/or holding the left mouse button?
Anyhow thank you so much for all the feedback, especially about the twitch integration. I made this game for a short competition organized by Twitch. I came up with how I wanted the game to integrate with Twitch almost immediately, but then I waited until the night before the deadline to actually implement twitch integration into the game. And since I myself don't stream on twitch, I wouldn't have been able to test out if it even worked properly. Since I'd need viewers engaging with the pool, which I don't have. So now I'm even more curios to watch your VOD, to see that feature at work.
Here's a link to the VOD.
You can? Oh. Well, shoot. XD
