Just made my let’s play on your game as a regular player (so it’s without voice comments). I hope it will be useful for you to see how fresh players might start your game for the first time :) I’ll provide text comments later, probably after finishing the videos for the other projects :)

I love that there's voice acting! The game definitely has Diablo vibes.

Also, it's excellent that there is a character customization screen, with male and female options and hair styles :)

I enjoyed using the bow and arrow. I noticed that the arrow seems to fly faster towards the end -- kind of like it was flying at a constant speed, then suddenly sped up when it hit. Also, the overall arrow speed could possibly be increased, and the size of the arrow model decreased.

Developer

Thanks, I was also thrilled to get a few voices on board this year - I want many more :)

Yeah the arrows need a bit of work - what you see might have to do with client/server timings. Are you playing from Europe?

I'm playing from the West Coast of USA

Developer

Ah maybe that's part of the explanation.  Server is in Germany. Thanks

That makes sense! Maybe the arrow flying could be rendered locally, even if the "hit" is calculated server-side?

Developer

That's what I'm doing - no new info about the arrow is being sent from the time it is fired until it hits.  Then when it hits it gets new info from the server and interpolates position. So if something is out of sync then it can suddenly shift quite fast in the end.
A better solution might be to add a hit effect and just let the arrow die at an appropriate time:)

Cool Diablo style game!

Thanks :)

Feedback:

  • When unzipping I had to create my own top level folder. Minor thing, but anything to make it easier for the player.
  • Consider not starting users in fullscreen mode.
  • Thank you for supporting 2k!
  • Harsh lines on the text scroll reveals - perhaps a gradient fade?
  • Rosalind is hard to hear against music by default. Had to mess with volumes.
  • Rosalind Voice Actor a placeholder? Felt like was reading off a page.
  • Gerhard Voice Actor is awesome.
  • Needs hit effects, no movement or effects to know you hit something. Spider are a bit better.
  • Text box distracting - perhaps fade out when playing?
  • No UI acknowledgement when you complete the mission parameters. I didn't know I was done killing rats!
  • Grass texture is really repetitive.
  • Music fit nicely. Not memorable but not distracting.
  • Environment details like the spider webs - consider adding variations of height to break up the planes.

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback!
Could you tell me where in the game you see this: "Harsh lines on the text scroll reveals"
Also for the grass textures - do you see this in the areas I have already decorated with grass patches and other vegetation, like on the left, or just in the unfinished areas, like on the right?
