game with a great atmosphere, the style is really very nice, it feels like you're on PS2. unfortunately there are several bugs that break the game. but overall it's a very good experience in the jam theme

Developer

Thanks a lot! Yeah I  wish I had some more time to iron out some of the bugs. After the jam ends I plan to update the game though, so all of that should be fixed by then!

once i figured out where to place the books the game was a lot less difficult, kept thinking if i sat down it would drop the book on the table? but still good game :]

Developer

Thanks! Yeah I should've been a lot more clear with the instructions, definitely going to fix those after the jam ends.

Great creative game concept but feels a bit unpolished. Here are a few things I noticed:

* Game crashes when you press Ctrl and move

* Running doesn't raise the noise meter (might be intentional)

* I was missing some instructions on the controls. You get told to press F to sit down and get back up but I couldn't figure out how to place the book on the table (or if I was even holding the right one though I'm guessing if I go to the 'E' Shelf it will take out the right book from the list?

So my playthrough went something like this:

Keep running through the library to not get noticed by the librarian, check what books to get, get one out of the shelf, sit down, try stuff, get caught by the librarian while trying to figure out what to do

Other than that:

Top Level design, the sounds that are there are great and improve the athmosphere, the game feels right for what it's trying to do and there's toilets!

Developer

Thanks man! Yeah the browsers don't seem to like it when you press "ctrl+w "at the same time, so i changed crouching to be "C" instead now. The running was something i was trying to fix last minute but just ran out of time :( it should make you have 3 loudness, but it only happens if you start to sprint when you are already walking, instead of holding shift before moving. The instructions are also something other people mentioned, deff making the objectives more clear next update. Got a lot more planned too! Thanks again for checking the game out!

Very nice game! I like the setting in a library. The librarian unfortunately doesn't really feel like a danger, because you can just stay in front of them, turn around and run away without being chased. The doors were more of a fear since I got stuck between an opening door and a wall. Still I see a lot of potential in this prototype and added it in my collection. The music is nice and gives a good introduction to the game's vibe. Some room noise and a bit of subtle reverb on the footsteps and other noises could increase the quality even more in my opinion. Before I figured out how to trick the librarian I felt quite unsettled by their footsteps moving slowly and hauntingly so that is very well done. You got my follow and I'm excited about playing more from you.

Thank you so much! Yeah the librarian is definitely going to be my next point of improvement, along with some general player movement / loudness-meter improvements as well. I like the ideas on the room noise and some reverb on the footsteps,  going to work these in too. Thanks for following , really appreciate it!

Excited to see and hear the changes you are going to make. Regarding the room noise, depending on if your team's sound designer has a field recorder or not, I can recommend you the SFX-libraries from GDC (Game Dev Conference) which are free to use and have a lot of sounds which are also available for commercial use.

Great looking creative game, fun but the librarian ai is super aggressive, once she looking at you it's basically game over.

Developer(+1)

Thanks man! Yeah the librarian ai really is a bit wacky still, should have started there first. Deff gonna make her better in the next update after the gamejam :)

That is one scary looking librarian dude. Not sure how to escape from her once she starts following you. She just kept staring at me when I stood still ._. Be proud of this game you made, even if it's just a prototype!

Developer

Thanks man! Yeah she deff is somewhat buggy still, seems to be because when you stand still you make 0 noise and she instantly deaggros.

Submitted(+1)

That might be the issue indeed. Bugs are hard to avoid if you make a game in a week for maybe the first time ever. Mine def has some bugs to iron out.

The nun(?) genuinely scared the first time

Something fishy is happening if there are no toilets in the bathroom booths.

Developer (1 edit)

Hahah I only just noticed that 1 of the 2 sides doesn't have them! Couldnt fix it in time :(
