I got to the shroot village and wandered around the forest for a while and couldn't figure out where to go next. The party fighting jrpg gameplay is solid and I enjoy the way you gain your party members. I tried the creature combiner a few times and got some good and some bad results, not sure how exactly it works because I didn't test it too extensively. I ended up with a team I liked and fought my way through the forest. The forest area is kind of really big for a first area and the zones look pretty similar to eachother so I found it hard to navigate. The city had the same problem, the streets mimiced each other and other than the unique landmarks it was hard to know which street I was on. The intro was quite long but I think your going for a story heavy rpg so I think its appropriate, but still there's a good bit before you actually kill something. I ran into a bug where the first time I downloaded the game there was 0 sound, I was pretty sure this game had sound so I redownloaded it and it worked, not sure why or how but I thought I would mention it. There was also no sound settings in the pause menu which I'd like to see. But other than that the game itself is well put together and the art looks good. Nothing in game was broken. Good game overall and I'll try to get further next time.

You're a mensch. Thank you for your review; lots of genuinely valuable feedback. I'm going to populate the city a bit before the Steam release, and I might try and add some landmarks to the forest to make each screen more distinguishable.
As for where to go next in the game -- have you met an NPC named Leon yet?

np. No i missed leon, i just met all the shroots is all i can remember

Developer(+1)

Ahh, yeah that explains it. Leon's a little dude in the northern part of the forest; talk to him and he gives you your next imperative.

Anyway, I'm glad you liked the demo!

I had a lot of fun with this demo and I think this game seems pretty promising.  I like the premise of the world and the monster designs are neat.

I had one problem where dialogue options were going off the side of the screen.

Other than that I feel like monster fusion should show you the result before you fuse since you can just savescum it anyway, and it would be nice if there was a way to know what type an attack was at a glance without having to read it's description.

I didn't get very far, just dealt with the first encounter with Goodhands and left the mirror world. Seems pretty cool so far. Have no complaints, but usually JRPGs aren't my thing. We'll have to see how I feel about it when I pick it up again.

Developer

Glad you liked it. I love how enthusiastic you were on your stream; I can already tell you're far more competent than prettysober based on the fact that you didn't try to negotiate with Goodhands lmao. If you do ever decide to pick it up again on stream, please let me know, because I'll definitely pop in and watch.

Thanks for making it!

Developer

Thanks, but I'm making it with a lot of help, lmao. My friend Hex is the one in charge of programming and does a lot of the dialogue too, as well as the UI. I have another friend doing the promo art and the designs for the human characters. It's a team effort; can't take all the credit.

The combat is pretty boring and tedious, and I feel that the main character is a cardboard cutout of a cliche. Having said that, I think it's really cool that you got an artist to help you out, so that it feels like there's a lot of stuff to do in the game

Developer

Shit, after all this time, somebody finally confirms my own fears about how people would react to the combat system ;_;

I don't like JRPGs, it's not your fault

Really cool game so far
