Well, this is certainly the game jam version of doing a triple axel blindfolded on one foot. VB was the first language I ever wrote games in, so I'm very aware what an impressive achievement this is. And you really captured the hang-on-let-me-get-my-graph-paper feel of those old Zork games. (I did successfully draw the entire map, I'll have you know.) I hit a runtime error when I tried to talk to Bruce after I got the bundle of sticks though--too bad!
