clever idea! it doesn’t seem intuitive at first because players would have the preconceived idea of how the chess pieces move, but after getting the hang of it, it’s pretty cool to think how to hit the enemy without too much friendly fire. the explosions, sounds and style are all awesomely tied together. it’s a pretty fun game, good job!
The concept for this is very cool. It would have been interesting if you made it so chess pieces could only attack squares they could legally move to. I also discovered that the hold time to select pieces is tied to the game's framerate. This could be remedied by using delta_time. All in all, pretty fun game.

Some pieces look very much alike, and the bishop for example would maybe need an adjustment, but I guess you know it =) The game is great as it is, but you plan to update it?
