Pixel Art refers to the charming, simplistic, retro/renaissance style of very-low-resolution graphics, such as from the 1977-1995 Atari, GameBoy, & Super Nintendo (SNES) eras.

Taking place after a huge catastrophe (eg. man made or natural disaster). See also the more political theme dystopian.

Featuring gameplay that moves horizontally across a scrolling background, with characters typically walking, running, or jumping from left to right. Often includes platforming elements and side-view perspectives.

Related to the process of arranging game maps using a set of tile graphics (often call tilesets)
