How Do I Submit My Game?

Credit: Tuile

Completely new to Itch.io? Start here >>

If you haven’t created an itch.io profile yet, now’s the time! Once your profile is set up, you can join the jam and host your game on itch.io.

From your itch.io Dashboard, select “Create a Project” and enter all necessary game details, including:

  • Game Description
  • Control Scheme
  • Gameplay Disclaimers (e.g., known bugs, player-side fixes)
  • Credits (team roles, any pre-made assets, references)

For more help creating your Project page, check out Itch’s Documentation on “Getting Started”. Be sure to set your game to free for the jam’s duration. If a paid entry is submitted, we’ll ask you to change it, or you risk disqualification.

Ready to submit your game entry? Start Here >>

Go to the HAGJ event page and press “Join Jam” to register as a contributor or entry page creator. Once joined, the “Join Jam” button will be replaced by “Submit Your Project” and “Leave Jam” buttons.

When you’re ready, click “Submit Your Project.” Here, you can either:

  • Create a new entry page by selecting “Create a Project” (if you haven’t already).
  • Or, select an existing entry page by going to “Go to My Dashboard”.

Once you’ve confirmed your Project page as your HAGJ entry, you’ll have the option to fill out a few extra descriptions. These are optional but can help participants understand your game better and may boost your ratings!

Optional details include:

  • Historical Accuracy: Describe how real events, resources, images, or links contribute to your game’s historical accuracy.
  • Thematic Relevance: Explain how your game aligns with the theme.
  • Disclaimers: Tell us if you’ve used any pre-made (code-only), free, or AI-generated content. If the assets are not created by you, please share the appropriate credit or links related to them. If using AI, please clarify your process to avoid disqualification due to excessive AI use. To read more about why, see “Is Pre-made/AI Content Allowed?”.

Once you’ve filled (or skipped) these descriptions, you can hit “Submit” and Congrats! You’ve successfully submitted your game!
