Adding Houses, Windmills, and a Bit of Smoke - Musta̶c̶h̶e Dev Weekly Update #13

Welcome Back!

Welcome to the 13th Musta̶c̶h̶e Dev Weekly Update, where I share the progress I’ve made over the last week and the challenges I’ve encountered.

This week, I implemented the time attack mode in ScaleUp (for people who play games to “relax” 😉) and continued making improvements in the cutscenes of Ryu’s Revenge, including a windmill.


Quit Confirmation ✋

Before anything else, I added the final touch to the UI of Ryu’s Revenge: a pop-up that asks the player whether they want to quit the game or not. Why? I don’t know…


Houses 🏘️

As I mentioned in the previous Weekly Update, I had to add some houses to the village. That’s why I designed three houses and then made some variations of them with different colors.

Windmill 🌿

Not only that, but I also added a windmill to bring life to the scene.

Now, fire is never complete without smoke. So here we go…

Time Attack ⏳

As I mentioned in a previous Weekly Update, I had planned to include both chill mode and time attack mode.

The time attack mode is basically the same as chill mode but with a time constraint. The remaining time is, of course, increased every time the player wins. However, I’m not sure I figured out the formula yet. The current formula is Time *= 1.5, which creates momentum (the stronger you start, the longer you’ll survive).

But I’m not sure about it yet, because sometimes the player can win in the nick of time, which means the remaining time would be 1.0 or less. Multiply this by 1.5, and they barely have a chance. Therefore, the only way to determine what the formula should be is through experimenting, trial and error, and play-testing 🧫.


Main Menu 🖥️

To be able to choose which mode to play, a main menu is required. I know it’s still a work in progress (WIP), but I thought I could share it with you anyway.
