Welcome to the 10th Mustache Dev Weekly Update, where I share the progress I’ve made over the last week and the challenges I’ve encountered.
This week was the first week back to school. I made a big update to the looks of ScaleUp, and I (almost) finally finished the UI of Ryu’s Revenge.
As I continued finishing both the functionality and appearance of the settings menu in Ryu’s Revenge, I created the art for the settings menu and re-implemented the resolution options.
Thanks to Godot’s theme editor, it was just me making StyleBoxes, but to add my own touch, I put a shuriken wherever I could—I’m not a UI pro, after all…
As a nod to the potato PCs out there, I re-added the resolution options. I had tried to implement them before, but they didn’t turn out as expected, so I thought, “Well then, let’s hide this thing!”
But this week, I managed to figure it out and added a really low-resolution option in case you experience any lag.
It’s been quite some time since I started working on ScaleUp as a side project, and I thought, “I want this to look good already…”.
Trust me when I tell you that “colors can make all the difference.”
With the right color palette, I was able to dramatically transform the game into this:
What follows colors? Sounds, right?
Actually, yes—but I made the animations anyway.
Today, after I got back from school (by jumping off the wall), I made these animations because… they are cool 😎.
Monday, September 23rd, was my first day back to school. Egypt’s education system is currently going through some big changes with the appointment of a new Minister of Education. I had been worried that school would cut into my game development time, but so far, it hasn’t been much of an issue.
Despite the changes, nothing much has improved at my school. We still don’t have teachers for most classes, and when they do show up, lessons are often skipped. So, I go to school, get marked as present, hang out with my friends, and then leave early by jumping over the wall.
While I don’t encourage anyone to do the same, in my case, it’s the best use of time because school feels like a waste I can’t afford right now.
That’s it! Thanks for reading, and see you next week!
I’m Mohamed, known as Mustache Dev. For the last 4 years (since 2021), I’ve been making games solo using only my mobile phone.
I’m now working on Ryu’s Revenge, my biggest project so far. It’s a 2D action platformer about a ninja slime named Ryu seeking revenge for his family and his entire clan after a brutal betrayal.
If you add Ryu’s Revenge to your collection, you’ll be notified when the free demo is out and when the full game is released.
Adding Ryu’s Revenge to your collection (and liking this post) is the best way to support me. Thanks ❤️
