Progress Update #3: Equipment, Spells and Progression!

Hello Defenders!

It's been over a week since the last Dev blog, and I've got a few features to share, so let's get right down to it!

Spelling Spells and Spell Scrolls

In Defenders of Dwaca, progression is everywhere! First, you'll need to build your repertoire of spells to face the ever more challenging monsters and arenas, so you'll need to buy Spell Scrolls to get a random spell.

The thieves guild yoinks what they can find from the lich’s stocks to sell to the rebels. Snatching and running, they don’t know what prize they might have… appropriated.

These Spell Scrolls cost gold, so you'll have to gather it by defeating the lich's monsters and minions. You might get some of these nifty toys to play with:

Firebolt
Description: A bolt of fire that pieces through the monsters.
Damage: 5 HP
Damage type: Fire, Pierce (Goes through monsters and still do full damage)
Ranged distance: Full screen
Damage area: NA
Duration: 1 second

Ice Orb
Description: Hurls a ball of icy magic that shatters on impact, slowing enemies that were hit.
Damage: 5 HP
Damage type: Water, Ranged
Ranged distance: Full screen
Damage area: on hit, 4 square radius
Damage area damage: 3 HP
Duration: Slow 20% speed for 1 second.

The best part? These spells can be improved during battle as well!

Each time you defeat a monster, you get a bit of temporary power from the lich's residual magic. When you get enough, you can upgrade any of your current slotted spells.

All the spells in Defenders of Dwaca can be upgraded up to 3 times! Each upgrade will always be more powerful than the last! (Do note that the upgrades only last until the end of the area and will reset once you leave!)

Grab your gear and fight!

Another layer of progression is the equipment system.

You can equip different weapons to your heroes, and they will receive various bonuses from the weapon, ranging from a simple damage increase to more complex buffs that might change your strategy!

Hidden in the deep recesses of the old city sewers, Whilfred, a lion, leads his band of marauders, the Savannah Cats, to raid the lich’s equipment caravans.

Equipment is acquired the same way as spells—by buying Equipment Chests. You'll get a random weapon from these chests, which, you guessed it, will be bought using gold dropped from monsters!

Here's some examples of the weapons:

Noble's Blade of Chill
Rarity: Rare
+18 HP
Passive: Increase magic damage by 25
Special: Increase damage of Water spells by an additional 10

Rarity: Artifact
+25 HP
Passive: Increase magic damage by 60
Special: Increase Spell damage by 50
Unique Bonus: Arcane Concentration - Reduce cast time by 15%

As you can see, the rarer "Mana's Edge" sword gives a unique bonus when equipped! Imagine pairing this with another cast speed booster spell—you can make a machine gun spell caster lol.

Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks again for reading, and as usual, please "Like" the post if it's helpful and feel free to comment!
