Bullet-hell Platformer (stand-in title), is exactly what it sounds like, a game where you platform around as bullets fly past your head and into your path. The gameplay will have a heavy focus on movement, the player has an air gun that can be used to push against the ground and walls, accelerating the player away from them. There is also plans for the player to be able to hold walls, this will allow the player to stick to a spot on the wall while the air-gun recharges. The game will feature a minimalistic style with a focus on clarity. And this game will be perfect for lovers of fast-paced movement based games.
Now the marketing spiel's over, let's talk about actually making the game. This game is being made for uni (this whole blog is a part of an assignment), and because of that we're being held at gun point to make it in GDevelop, I've worked in other game engines so it should be easy enough. And after only a couple of hours of work I can say that at first it was pretty cool: drag and drop a working platformer controller? That's sweet. Unfortunately, as soon as you get into trying to do anything yourself (vector maths) it gets very tedious, I'm pretty sure that in two hours of Godot I could have got further than two hours of GDevelop. But it is what it is and I can probably get the basic movement up and running in a few more hours of work. I'm only planning on making a single level cause it's just a prototype and I honestly have no idea if it'll be fun or not. Well, see you next week.
