To begin with, I teamed up with classmates for the Games Now! game jam. The theme was “missing”, and ironically it was missing for a brief time. Our brainstorming led us to a haunted mansion idea where players had to find a ghost's lost items.
Feeling that our concept needed more depth, I later introduced a new element - missing time. Picture this: a nasty ghost curses you, giving you only 30 seconds to complete a level, turning the game into a speed run. Despite this decent addition, I still felt we could come up with a much deeper idea.
Even with a solid concept, the work process felt shaky. It wasn't until we finished and published the game that I realized what went wrong – we didn't use any backlog apps. Skipping a plan manager led to issues like missing a quit menu, lacking a proper tutorial, and neglecting sound problems. Looking back, all the hitches in the final product boiled down to not using effective project management. Going forward, I'm committed to keeping things organized, making sure I know what's on my plate, what I'm currently tackling, and what's already done.
