Development Update: FREE GODLESS

We have made the decision to make GODLESS, our third party setting guide for the SHADOWDARK RPG, absolutely free.

This was a difficult decision all around. Upon the initial release, the folk working on GODLESS felt that this was a flagship sort of project, something to build around, and something that we spent so much time on, it was worth something. At the time, we felt that if it did not have a monetary value, there would be less interest in taking part in the thing we spent so much time and effort on.

The business people brainwashed us.

In reality, just because something is worthy does not mean it has to be paid for. Furthermore, things that cost money are not somehow better than things that are free - and no person looking for an indie TTRPG is going to think that way. A lot of great crap in life is completely free. We also realized that our philosophy in tabletop making is a punk one; one that is authenticity driven and most of all, trying to make our favorite games ACCESSABLE. And payment is not accessibility.

The final issue we had to get over was that people who worked on this thing feel like their work should be compensated when used. And that is true - if someone does good work, they should be paid when people want to use that work. So, then it came down to trust; and we trust people that if they think it is worth some amount of money, they will pay that if they can. And if they can't pay for it, they should still have ACCESS to it, and play it with their friends. KNUCKLEPUNK GAMES is not trying to make big money making silly games, we just want people to have fun playing games with people. So we are going to be more consistent with that.

Anyway, please - please - please enjoy GODLESS.
