Hello!!
Ok this is my first post here on Itchio, so I don't know much how works the platform, but I will try to use it to show step by step the process of my next asset pack
First, let me starting saying that I wish my asset become a game, like I even write the story behind the character, but unfortunately I never had success making a game, so I decided to create asset pack for the games I imagine
So what's this fake game about? It's a simple story about a young witch, Amethyst, in a quest discovering her skills.
First time when I made the character, I use the colors from Pokemon Crystal to make her skin, usually this is my process, I take some inspiration to see the result and then I will start to make my own move
This is how she is now, I'm still thinking about the shadow if the shadow should be pink or make it black
Probably I will go with the pink version, because the black shadows seems to mix too much with her body. What do you think about it? I'm open for ideas
For the tileset i'm working with the basic "grass/forest" tileset, it's generic? Yes. But I think to upload here and got good views, the generic is kind of better to start. Maybe in the future I can update with more tileset for this project, like Dark forest, dungeon, ice, inside house, village....
Here is the first prototype, the resolution for the mockup i'm working on is 160x144, that's the Game boy resolution
As you can see also here there is a old version of the character, with less saturated colors, but she looks like so sad, so... i just give up about that one
Even I say before that I am looking for something generic, I also want to give it a special touch. Like, is very commun we see tilesets like that:
and don't get me wrong, that's ok to make something like that! Special when you are starting and want to learn how to draw
But you see like every tile seems the same? also you don't know where the light comes from, and don't even feel deep?
so I decides to make the tileset a little more like that
There is still some tiles I need to work, like the one right over the character, on but this is how its looking like for now, and after added some trees is that:
Now it's starting to look like a game! and to finish my first step, I made the basic enemy for the project
I will make a better explanation and talk more the characters in the next update, but just for curiosity, this enemy is a character from one personal project I worked on last year, but as I say in the begging of the topic, I never finished my games (I don't have the skills to programmer a game YET), so I decided to bring this guy back, here is him original version

It is a very interesting method to create assets... Couldn't imagine that this method can exist. I like it and the art too!
