IV. Map Design & Modelling

Map Before (Proposal)

Map Before (Proposal)

Map After (Updated)

Map After (Updated)

Following up on the map design presented in the proposal, I made a few adjustments on the layout, mostly noticeably moving the public transport interchange (bus terminal) area towards the middle because I wanted the players to drive through this area more often.

In Blender, first I form the road outlines of the map layout by creating vertices and connecting them into edges.

Then I put planes onto the lines to make them become roads.

After cleaning up their overlapping areas, a basic road mesh is formed.

Filling the blocks + bevel and solidify to make them become pavements.

Modeling the first building (school).

Adding building on other blocks.

A compilation of the Google Map / Street View images I took reference from when modelling different parts of the map.

Other modelling process snapshots

With this map created, the next step was to prepare for importing into the Unity project to have the first test drive on it for evaluation of map design (next post).
