Artist Statement

My childhood memories are full of playing with diecast toy cars and I play a lot of car games such as Crazy Taxi, Need For Speed and Hot Wheels Unleashed. Growing up in the bustling city of Hong Kong, it is a dream of mine to play a car game with a map of Hong Kong, swerving through busy traffic and tight corners of the streets. Also, I find myself really fond of miniature models, they are pretty and because of their small size, it imposes a good limitation that I can only capture their essential details when modelling them, thus less demanding than the art style of realism.

This is why I created the Diecast Arena game project, a 3D multiplayer driving game set in a miniature world in which players drive diecast toy cars to engage in fun and challenging car game such as “Racing”, “Collection Battle” and “Car Hunt”. The goal and vision of this game is to realize the imaginations when we play toy cars in our childhood, creating a miniature world of Hong Kong in which we can drive diecast toy cars. The map resembles Kowloon environment such as Choi Hung Estate, Tong-laus and the MTR railway. I see many racing games focus on track-racing with fast supercars, so in this game I focus on driving civilian vehicles such as taxis and vans in dense city environment to maintain uniqueness.
