Weird Locations, part 27!

Another day, another two Weird Locations!

First today we have the Ocean Floor.

I believe this one was specifically inspired by a Fafhrd and The Gray Mouser story where they fight an octopus.

The idea of an air pocket on the bottom of the sea is terrific and terrifying.

All the secrets of the inky deep laid bare.

I am reminded of the legend of Alexander the Great requesting to be sent bellow the waves in a great jar.

Only to be horrified by what he saw.

The two location specific creatures were inspired by such deep sea mysteries.

Crabs which wear poisonous coral on their claws, and Jelly Fish.

I will admit the Jelly Fish for this game were inspired by Sponge Bob.

Hence why they do Lightning Damage.

A reference to how said show styalises the poisonous attack of the Jelly.

I also decided to add a ruin, as much of the Ruins were inspired by the legend of Atlantic.

So it just made sense to put one here, with more Jelly Fish as a unique treasure.

What strangeness the waves hold.

Next we have The Wall. From Scotland to China, people have loved a good wall.

Fantasy walls tend to be epically large.

While Hadrian's wall was about 12ft high at best,

The Wall from A Song of Ice and Fire is 800ft high.

This wall is by comparison a modest 240ft high.

Once you have a wall, you must ask why you have a wall.

I decided this wall would Contain something.

However, I left this up to other GMs to decide.

The final two details about this location of note are its connection to Giants, and Weevils.

I've always liked the idea of ancient structures built by giants.

Saxon Myth is full of old Roman Ruin's being attributed to giants.

So having a location based on this idea was a must.

As for the weevils. I think I got the idea from Termites in walls...

but Weevils are just more fun. Have you seen their faces?

Have you seen their eggs? The fun look of their eggs inspired me to make them tameable.

Walls are fun. Even if they're full of bugs.

Hope you've enjoyed these two locations! Stay tuned for the next 28!
