Hello everyone and welcome back to RainSpice Studios' monthly devlog. If it’s September 4th it’s still the start of September, right?
(Feel free to read until the end, there’s an important poll at the bottom!)
This month was focused on bug-fixing and finishing up every second date and an additional scene. The good news is: that part is fully done!
Henry also has a new magical boy outfit because excuse me what was that and why did I ever think it looked good? I’m a lot happier with the new one and it will probably end up being the final version.
(I don’t want to have to redraw him again, Aiko already had three redesigns so not again please--)
The bad news is that it will absolutely not be ready for the end of the year. I start a new job in a week and will not put more pressure on myself than what is absolutely necessary.
So what’s the goal for Enter the Eternity for September? Finish two scenes out of the 26 left (not including credits), which are Aiko and Ameni’s third dates.
The backgrounds are done, CGs are half-done, but they’re not written and therefore no sprites nor audio has been added, so that’s what I’ll be focusing on!
As said in Enter the Eternity, this month was focused on bug-fixing, and there were a lot of bugs in The Code of Crystals chapter 2 – which are now all fixed. Massive shout-out to my friends that had to deal with my endless bug-fixing as they were playtesting it when they came over to my place.
The first act of chapter 2 is almost done. I consider each POV shift as an act, and the first POV character in chapter 2 is Eranis. My goal for September is to finish up this act and, if possible, start working on the second act.
I need to: redraw two character sprites, finish proofreading a scene, implement sprites where they should go, and fix the audio. Then onto Act 2.
I already have most of Act 2 written, as well as Teysdrar’s sprites. Just like Eranis has a change of clothing at the start, he does too, but he also has an additional set past A Certain Event(TM).
No logo yet for Project Regent, which is a collaboration project between me and an artist called Sparkey. She takes care of the backgrounds and writing, and I take care of coding and character sprites. And as predicted: it’s a big baby and a lot of work, but I sincerely hope that you will like it.
My goal this month was to finish my part of the prologue and character creation scene, and format most of chapter 1. I’m happy to announce that my goal has been achieved along with additional sprites that I managed to finish just in time for this update.
The hardest part was to make a codex, stat screens for all four players, and selectable main character sprites, but after a lot of trial and error, it all works as it should! If all goes to plan I should have character sprites to show in a few days.
My goal this month is not to finish chapter one, as there’s only 24 hours in a day, but I would like to finish the first scene after the character creation process and a scene where you meet two young ✨prophets✨ but you will have to play the game to know what a prophet is.
Audio will come later. Right now Sparkey and I are trying to get the visual part to look just right, then we will find music that fits.
(Also ty to Ben for letting me gush about this project with no warning.)
So what I need to do is finish a few sprites and implement said sprites into the game. The written and stat parts are done, so it will be a month filled with a lot of art and not a lot of coding. I don’t know if that’s good or not, but it must be done, and I’m happy to get started.
Aside from all the game work, I’m still wondering if I should make lore books for Project Regent and the Code of Crystals? (Enter the Eternity could have one as well but I’m feeling that I should group all of my “Eternity” projects into one big artbook, same with my “cyberpunk” projects.) What do you guys think?
On the IRL side of things I start my new job in a week, which I exciting and terrifying, but I know what I can do in a day. I’ve organized my schedule to have manageable monthly goals.
I still need a new computer, but I’ll order it in late 2025/early 2026 so I have time to save up for the beast I need for work and video games (to make and to play).
Thank you for your support and let's make some good progress in September. I hope to see you all in spooky season (the best season) and have a lovely autumn or spring!
Rain from RainSpice Studios, signing off.
