Hi! I'm sorry, I wasn't sure where else to ask this: how do I access the main menu once I'm in the game? Right now i have it minimized because I don't know how to save and quit, lol. It looks really great, btw!!

Developer

Does pressing on quit work? But to save just press save in the pause menu and quit the game through Windows if quit doesn't take you back to the main menu.  To bring up the pause menu press P if you didn't remap any controls because that's the default.

Aha, I didn't know how to even pause! My fault for not checking the controls before jumping in. Thanks for answering my question, I really can't wait to get into this game more! It looks beautiful! Oh, also wanted to ask, those animal growls and howls and whatnot, I thought it meant there was actually an animal really close by - sometimes it sounds right on top of me. But I've yet to see anything. I am supposed to be careful when I hear that, right?

Developer

Pretty much. The sound plays when you’re within a certain radius of the animal so you may not see it but it’s close by. I was thinking about adding even more ai spawners but that made it almost impossible to survive

Developer

And it gets louder as you close in so it may be a few meters away but the view just blocked by a tree or building.

Funny! I played for an hour and never once saw anything, despite constant growls wherever I went. I do have a couple more gameplay questions, if it's alright? I'm stuck on how to place items. I was able to craft a bed and a campfire, and I thought i could place at least the bed inside a building. I right click on it, select 'place', and then...nothing. I see it on the menu below next to the flashlight, and it's highlighted, but I tried pressing different keys and clicking and nothing happened. I thought it was because it has to be outside, but nothing worked there either.

Also, for when I do encounter a wolf or something, how dangerous is it if I don't have any armor yet? I made a gun, but I'm still nervous about coming across something to use it on, lol. Oh, and one more thing, I saw in the audio settings that there's music but its default is 'off'. I tried switching it on, but it doesn't take. Should I be pressing something to apply the changes? I really appreciate the responses!!

I assume you are playing on version 2.0.1 right?

For the animals you should try hunting for them using the sound system when you have the weapons to fight them off but I'll definitely add in even more spawners in the next version because its fairly hit or miss. Its both a performance issue along with not making the game too hard so I'm still trying to find that perfect balance.

The first part is a bug that I encounter during testing about half of the time and I'm still looking for a fix for that. I have no idea why its happening because the code looks alright to me.

Armor is pretty limited its just the cardboard equipment you craft using cardboard. The clothes you find isn't armor its just for cosmetics. But to fight a wolf I didn't consider a player having armor so its not a big deal. A gun should be enough, especially the shotgun.

There isn't any music I'll probably just remove that setting its just there as a placeholder in case I add some but its very low on my priority list as of right now.

Right now I just want to build up the features list before taking it out of early access and fixing all of the bugs. Its just me working on it when I have free time as a passion project so I miss a lot of bugs while testing or I just don't think of testing a certain feature.
