This series has languished for far too long. While I appreciate the fact that the 4 mainline entries have been readily available for some time on numerous platforms I, as well as many fans, greatly lament the fact that the original offline format has been entirely abandoned.
I love Phantasy Star Online. I played if for a few years both solo and with my sister, uncle and wife. I still think about it occasionally and I'm glad it exists, and that it was followed up on. I hate that SEGA completely stopped making games like their original 8 and 16 bit classic RPGs though. Phantasy Star, Shining Force, Shining in the Darkness/Holy Ark, heck even Landstalker...that classic style is gone forever. They could still make something work without Camelot.
Both Phantasy Star I and II received, Japan exclusive, budget PS2 remakes over 20 years ago. They're.. fine I suppose (particularly the first one) but were very obviously small projects. I don't have too much to say about that first one other than the fact that the scripting flags to progress quests were way too convoluted. I played about half of it.
I did not care for the remake of the 2nd one at all though. It seemed that it couldn't decide whether or not it wanted to be a remake or a remaster. It added some interesting ideas while still holding on to too many of the old flaws to be a full on remake. The battles were interesting though.
I've tried various fan remake/sequel projects for PS 1, 3 and 4 but no one seemed to want to touch the second title, despite it never leaving the conversation.
Anyways after searching online over the years for fan remakes and only finding romhacks for the original Phantasy Star 2 and no real remake attempts, I decided to draft up some ideas and give it a go. After I drafted my version of the Mota map and held it side by side with the original, I knew I had something. I hope this is a success and, at the least, that it inspires other great fan ideas. Phantasy Star Mania anyone? Haha just kidding. But seriously, I just figured "Hey, why not!"
