It is true it is still in alpha, but that gives all the more time to work more on the workbench. The main problem/concern of the workbench, is the difficulty of assembling the weapons/tools. i.e. i tried to assemble a great-sword with all the correct parts however it wouldn't assemble and the customer ended up running out of time.
