In the latest public release, any red cards in combat do nothing. I tried redownloading 3 times, but no dice. It's impossible to play like this
I've also been having this issue. Clicking those cards seems to simply make them disappear and then nothing happens in the game whatsoever until you press m2 to undo the action. I had to rely exclusively on the grenades we are given.
