When I save and close the game and open it again, I lose all of the saved files and idk how to fix it

I have gotten pretty far into the game but I keep losing my progress every time I close the game and reopen it

i did the same thing, if you read the instructions at the start they tell you that can press x to go to the menu and save there or you could do it in one sitting
