If you encounter bugs or crashing while playing and have tried the basic troubleshooting steps on the game’s main page, you’re in the right place!

Here’s what you need to do to send a bug report to redtomatochicken so that the bug can (hopefully) be fixed!

Make a new forum post here with the title [BUG REPORT] at the start and a title describing your issue. For example: [BUG REPORT] Game closes when Alt+F4 is pressed (note that this example is normal behaviour and is not a bug, THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE so please don’t go making troll bug reports!!!)

Include the following information in the post (you MUST give each of these or the bug report may get ignored!):

  • Brief description of what’s going wrong:
  • Brief description of how to reproduce:
  • OS:
  • CPU:
  • GPU:
  • Memory:
  • Link to logfiles:
  • Link to savefile (if applicable):

FAQ

How do I get the logfiles?

On Windows, game logs are located in your appdata directory here: %appdata%/redtomatochicken/mihoshiho/logs

Copy and paste this directory into your file explorer’s address bar without making any changes.

Note: The % symbols are a shorthand and will automatically redirect to the full and proper directory.

Now that you’ve navigated to the logs folder, you should see a list of files here beginning with godot. Select all files in the folder and zip these up into a single zip file. Upload this zip file somewhere and share the link in your post.

How do I get the savefiles?

On Windows, saves are located in your appdata directory here: %appdata%/redtomatochicken/mihoshiho/saves

Copy and paste this directory into your file explorer’s address bar without making any changes.

Note: The % symbols are a shorthand and will automatically redirect to the full and proper directory.

Now that you’ve navigated to the saves folder, you should see a list of files of type .PNG and .matosave. The actual savefiles are the .matosave files, so you can ignore the PNGs.

Select the savefile(s) that you were encountering the bug with and zip that up into a single zip file. Upload the zip file somewhere and share the link in your post.

Note: Each savefile’s name has a number that corresponds to the save slots in game, starting at 1.matosave for the top save slot and ending with 3.matosave for the bottom save slot.

What if the problem occurs before I can save?

No need to send a savefile! Just the logs and system info should be good.

I get a “couldn’t load project data at path” error when launching the game.

Make sure that you extracted the downloaded zip folder before running! The game relies on other files in that folder and they can’t be accessed if they aren’t unzipped.

If you’ve already done that and still are experiencing issues, the game download may be corrupted. Try downloading the game again and see if that fixes the issue.

The game plays sounds, but all I see is a grey screen or checkerboard pattern.

This is likely an issue with the GPU running out of VRAM and can’t display any new textures. The game doesn’t use a whole lot of VRAM (about 2GB), so any GPU from 2016 and onward should work. Check your GPU’s VRAM to see if it meets the minimum requirements. If it does and you’re still experiencing issues, please make a bug report on the forums.
