Let me start off by saying I absolutely loved this first chapter. The sheer talent on display is remarkable; I genuinely forgot I was playing a fangame throughout most of it. Truly, well done! I did however discover a handful of bugs, that I want to make you aware of. Some small ones are:
- in the options menu in the trinket, if you exit out while holding down, and then open the options menu again, it starts with the wrong option highlighted, and the whole menu shifted off-center;
- the sheep on Wolfgang's lapel is missing in a handful of sprites;
- during trial prep in the prologue, the chapter title is erroneously stated as "Vows Created by Stitches and Needles", as opposed to "Vows Woven by Stitches and Needles";
- upon loading a save created on the line directly after Tozu Theater, the environment stays entirely black.
I also had a lot of trouble regarding controller support. Many actions were mapped to the same button, or very inconsistent in when they were registered. I understand that by far most people will play with mouse+keyboard, but I'd recommend putting at least one person in QA on controller to weed out any cases such as these:
- the 'silencer' button during a Non-Stop Debate is the same button as Speed Up;
- during Argument Altercation, the button for firing the 'noise bullet' is the same button for firing the 'mega bullet';
- seemingly only the 'back' button for the controls menu in minigame introductions is mapped;
- moving up and down while cycling through Truth Bullets/Swords is very inconsistent
- similar inconsistency in button detection also shows up during the selection of the phrase order for the final question of an Argument Altercation.
Aside from this, it would also help greatly if the controller controls were shown in-game as opposed to just the mouse+keyboard controls.
I also have some feedback to share regarding the Argument Altercation. I think the bullet hell mechanic is a wonderful idea, but for chapter one the difficulty is way too high (granted, I was playing on Mean difficulty.) I was able to get through it after a while, but I'd expect this level of difficulty for around the latter half of the game.
I also think the player should have the opportunity to open up their Trinket during this section, so they can save and quit, or change their difficulty if need be, without losing all their progress.
Finally, I think the attacks could be telegraphed a little better. The exploding bullets seemingly had no means of telling in what orientation they were to explode until after they've already exploded. The "bullet tornado" attack also didn't seem to have a particular way to dodge completely without relying on being lucky enough to not get stuck in a dead end. The crow attack also didn't feel like something dodgeable to me.
Thank you all for such an amazing showcase of a first chapter. I massively enjoyed myself, and am very much looking forward to what you will deliver in the future! Keep up the outstanding work!
