The Book Collector is a vampire survivors inspired game with a strong focus on it's mechanics for specialized builds and a wide variety of spell types, which you can try here => The Book Collector
As the completion of the demo drew near, I finally confronted a task I had put off - crafting the main character for my game. My journey into pixel art was that of a novice seeking improvement through practice. With the deadline looming, I felt it was time to dive in. Envisioning a gothic-inspired wizard with striking, high-contrast colors as the protagonist, I eagerly embarked on the creation process.
v.1
The scale of our first iteration of the Book Collectors main character was perfect, I liked the color palette and contrast, however I felt the design was overall "too cute" and clashed with the art direction of my game.
v.2
In the second iteration of the main character the proportions are more realistic, however the scale is too large and I found it very difficult to animate this character.
v.3
Version 3 of the main character looks much better! His scale and design more accurately fit the games art direction, with the main criticisms I have received being that it looks like he is holding the staff with both hands.
v.4
In version 4 he has his cape which better sells the motions and shows he is using the staff one handed!
Thank you for reading about my games progress. Development is ongoing, so your feedback can be very helpful!
