Training With The Master: VPI appears to actively lie to me

The notion of learning from an old monk how to use nonobvious game mechanics as a side quest is a fun one, but I think this should probably have been available in chapter one or two, not chapter six. Regardless, the melee training, in teaching me to dash cancel, doesn't show me why I might want to - the knockback is pretty consistently worth the recovery frames - and then it tells me to defeat four targets in twenty seconds while using dash cancels, but I can only get enough stun damage to do that if I use the normal combo. This is actively counterproductive to learning the mechanic.

A better way, I think, would be a training dummy that counterattacks me if I do a full combo, and no time limit. I don't know how hard this would be to implement, but I do know it would greatly improve the experience.

Another skill I'd like to see a tutorial for is staying on target with the melee combo. I'm using mouse and keyboard, and I rarely use non-Art melee, as it's hard to hit with. Part of that is because it's aimed with the keyboard and fired with the mouse, but another big part is that it moves both me and my target, and not always in the same direction.

Thoughts?
