Greetings fellow investigators!

I'm thrilled to announce that the Torment of the Old Gods quickstart guide is now available for download (and it appears some of you have already downloaded it!). This tabletop RPG aims to plunge players into tense occult investigations set in a dark, Mythos-infused 1940s universe.

Within these unhallowed pages, you'll find:

  • Streamlined percentile-based mechanics focused on player-driven storytelling.
  • A lethal combat system with unique mechanics like Sanity Loss and Environmental Pressure.
  • All the core rules needed to run a simple test game of your own devising (with an official Narrative coming soon).

View this quickstart guide as the first step in an evolving journey. I aim to develop Torment of the Old Gods in an open and collaborative manner, welcoming suggestions to help shape it into the ultimate investigative horror experience we all crave. While this initial ruleset establishes the core foundations, everything remains flexible and subject to change based on playtesting feedback and input from the community.

Together we can refine and expand the mechanics and themes iteratively until they perfectly capture the lethal explorations, maddening revelations, and tense player-driven storytelling that define the Lovecraftian genre we know and love.

I'm eager to hear your thoughts, feedback and any questions you may have after reading through the quickstart guide:
  • What parts of the setting, mechanics or narrative themes resonated most with you?
  • Are there any aspects of the rules that need more clarification or examples?
  • What would you like to see expanded in future supplements? New skills? More settings? Alternate combat options?
  • How can the character creation system be improved?
  • Does the Sanity system feel integral to gameplay? Should it be expanded?
  • What pacing or balance tweaks need refinement?

I want to ensure Torment delivers an exceptional cosmic horror experience. Please share any and all thoughts that come to mind! No feedback is too small.

Now steel your nerves, form your cabals, and let's begin unraveling sinister games together. But whisper a prayer first -- no one escapes these realms of nightmare unchanged...
