Official Roadmap Sticky Locked

Here we will post the official road map of The Hunting Season VR. Please bear in mind this is a plan of how we want things to proceed, and is in no way a definite and guaranteed timescale, and that some of the features listed here may not be brought to fruition by the version they were intended, or at all.


Alpha 0.1 - Currently released.


Alpha 0.2 - Future Itch.io free release:

  • Second weapon, handgun (model TBD).
  • Second animal, Deer Buck.
  • Early animal behavioural system, animals will react to gunshots and player movement sound.
  • Animal needs - sleep, eat, drink, mate.
  • Prototype lure that will attract deer based on distance from player.
  • Second larger map - aiming for 4x the size of Alpha 0.1 map or more.
  • Menu system.
  • Estimated date - unknown.


Alpha 0.3 - Future Itch.io free release: 

  • Third weapon, most likely rifle (model TBD).
  • Two animals, Bear and Wolf/Coyote.
  • Player camouflage - animals will react based on sight, not just noise. Player can remain motionless, crouch and hide in foliage to make it harder for animals to see them.
  • A lure for each of the new animals.
  • Scoring system based on where bullets hit. Some hits may not kill an animal outright, only hits to certain areas (i.e. heart, lungs, brain) will bring it down. There will be no wounding yet, just fatal and non-fatal hits.
  • Score saving - the game will save your scores from previous hunts.
  • Estimated date - unknown.


Alpha 0.4 "The Animal Update" - Future release:

  • Fleshed out Animal behavioural system - animals will form herd and packs where appropriate, and will move to need zones as a group. They will also have preferred routes, avoiding traveling through certain areas and instead heading through areas they feel are safer.
  • Early baiting system - player is able to place a bait location, which will attract animals of a given type.
  • Early tracking system - wherever an animal travels, it will leave a trail. The player can then follow this trail to try and find the animal, or camp the route and hope that either another animal travels the same route, or the animal comes back again.
  • Animal wounding - animals that take non-fatal hits will now leave blood trails, and potentially bleed out. This can affect your score - a kill shot is always preferable to a long drawn out death.
  • Estimated date - unknown.


Alpha 0.5 "The Player Update" - Future release:

  • Four weapons, two rifles, a handgun, and a new weapon type, the bow (models TBD).
  • Multiple new lures/callers.
  • Stands and blinds - player place able objects that aid the player in avoiding detection by animals.
  • Third map - likely the same size as the second map, will be a different season to add a new touch to the experience.
