Code error stops me from starting the game :(

I downloaded the game with no problem and the opening sequence played just fine, but the second I clicked "new game" this error message popped up:

Hi there! Thanks for letting me know about this issue. I have a couple of suggestions that may help you out here:

Please ensure that your graphics card drivers are up to date.
If that doesn't do the trick for you then please try updating and/or reinstalling DirectX.

I checked both, and both are up to date. I also tried reinstalling DirectX and it didn't change anything :(

idk, maybe my computer is just incompatible with something or other. Kinda bummed. Thanks for the suggestions tho :)
