Vulnerability Risk vs. Reward Mechanic

As discussed...

Once the "early warning signs" mechanic for potential vulnerabilities in your security setup is implemented, you can run a mental risk vs. reward evaluation to determine which course of action to take.  Specifically...

1.) Ignore the warning signs and let the vulnerability become a critical one, which lets you swoop in as the IT Hero to save the day with last-minute actions, at the risk of actually having your security penetrated?  This could have major impacts on your performance review, both positive and negative.

2.) Immediately take action to patch the vulnerability, which means little impact on your performance review because it's a routine and mundane task/action.
