Hello, is there a way to get a weapon?

Hey thank you for playing. Yes the first weapon is in the room behind the guard at the Baron's manor. 

After you defeat Kaali the lioness you will find a battle axe as well. Also there is a battle hammer in a hidden room somewhere.

I wonder why so many people have problems getting the sword? Is there something specific I should know?
