Almost finished the game but I can't work out how to "set the alarm" as Bernard keeps saying. I can't even remember what this means! I've sorted out all the character's other tasks (sign/solvent/pin)

I think you need to use the crowbar with the grandfather clock.  Then "use" the clock to set the time.
