Feedback on ๐ŸŒž Sunstone Seekers: a Tactical Turn-Based Rougelike

Hi everyone,

I'm working already for around 9 months in my spare time on a game called Sunstone Seekers. It's a turn-based, tactical rougelike. Somethings like Final Fantasy Tactics or Banner Saga, but taking a lot of Rougelike inspiration from Slay the Spire.

Although 9 months is already quite some time to create prototype, better get feedback earlier than later :)

I'd really appreciate if you could give me feedback on:
1. Whether you had problems understanding the mechanics
2. Whether it was fun to play (and more than anything: what was fun)
3. What is it that you don't like (or whether you feel like this game takes a wrong direction in general)
4. Whether the text on my itch.io page helped you to get an image of the game

Nevertheless, I'd appreciate any feedback I can get.

Thanks a lot to everyone who participates!! :)

Hey dumrum, I thought the game was really cool! I played Banner Saga in the past and I can definitely see the inspiration in your game. So:

1. The mechanics were simple to understand.

2. It was fun! Well done!

3. I like the roguelike idea. I think the game needs a lot of polish on the UI. Maybe a difficulty system in the future? But UI and polish. Also, the characters seem blurry. Make sure to turn off compression on your sprites to get that crispy sharp pixel art look. Also, consider adding music, as subtle as it may be.

4. I will say, your page does a fine job about informing the viewers given that they are aware of those games. Do consider adding description that matches the flavour of your game.

All in all, this was a neat prototype. All the best!

Thanks a lot wolfmakesgames! Really happy to hear that you enjoyed it! :)

I know the UI is still quite ugly and I know some of the pain points player have with it, but could you maybe tell me a little what exactly you think I could improve on the UI (or at least the most annoying points for you)?

I have actually implemented music and sound effects from this version on, so I am a little surprised you didn't hear it ^^'
May I ask for which Operating system you have downloaded the game?

Regarding the description I will definitely to give it some flavour.

Have a great day! :)

Hi Dumrum,

I enjoyed your game. Here is my feedback :

1. Whether you had problems understanding the mechanics
=> i got it. The double attack with quick and standard was a bit strange to me. I think player could easily miss it.

2. Whether it was fun to play (and more than anything: what was fun)
=> yes that was fun. I liked the end level reward where you can choose skills and customize your team. I was happy to recruit a Vampire. I like the difficulty, a bit easy but ok.

3. What is it that you don't like (or whether you feel like this game takes a wrong direction in general)
=> I didn't like that much the sprites, especially the enemies but the heros are great. I think the UI can be improved but that's ok for a proto. Maybe the text can be bigger, or maybe I am getting older... Oh ! And I am not a big fan of windows install, i did it nevertheless because you spend 9 month on it and because of the TRPG roguelike genre that I enjoy. I suggest that you upload a webgl build.

4. Whether the text on my itch.io page helped you to get an image of the game
=> Not really. But the screenshot helped.

I just red wolf comment and I agree with him regarding the blury character. I think the same, something is wrong when you import the sprite and I am pretty sure you forget about the compression ;)

Thanks a lot for the feedback AspicProd, brings a smile to my face to see you enjoyed it :)

The WebGL Build is a great idea. I will do it as soon as I can. :)
Regarding the sprites I have to admit that I'm not sure myself in which art direction I am actually going, and so there are mainly two different styles.
There's the outlined more cartoony look I used before (as for example for the Pirates) and the slimmer, more pixel-arty I slowly migrate to (as the archer character). Could you maybe say which of those two is the one you liked less?

Hope you have a great day :)

Hi. Take your time, think carrefuly and enjoy your game dev ;).
I prefer the archer pixel-arty.

Good luck
