Poor Dee! He try he best.
I wrote the novella Limerent Object a while back and pulled together a few stories around it to form A Wildness of the Heart. Something about my mindset at the time combined with some stuff that was happening in the world at large kept me from actually advertising the book all that much. Limerent Object in particular felt unwelcome within furry. It felt like, with a week or so of editing, it could have been a non-furry story and found success at a wider scale.
Beyond that, though, religion in furry feels fraught. There is a majority of atheist and agnostic furries at last count, and a great many antitheist folks based on personal experience. Why the fuck would I write about Catholic coyotes?
Well.
Anyway, Wildness came out at a really weird time for me and a really weird time for everyone, and although I'm really proud of LO and "Jump" in particular, I stopped advertising it because it felt unwelcome.
I'm realizing now that a lot of that was bound up within myself. I'd formed these opinions of the work that I'm not sure actually bear out in the world at large. And when I say "not sure", I really mean it. I've received some positive feedback, as well as some feedback that agrees with the "why is this furry" line of thought, but less "this is unwelcome" feedback than I thought I would. I should do better at reading the room most of the time, and that includes when the room may be more positive than I'm giving it credit for.
To that end, please enjoy 50% off Wildness for a week, and should you decide to pick it up, I earnestly hope that you enjoy it. It's very meaningful to me.
