It's time to expand your horizons.
With an all-new creative team, this pre-order campaign will help grow the first expansion to the original Carly Rae Jepsen-inspired cyberpunk TTRPG. At its core, this expansion will expand on the canonical world, add additional mechanics to help players customize and grow their characters, and provide a new heist for crews.
With each new funding tier, the team will grow to include a variety of artists and writers who will lend their expertise and perspective to Boy Problems. With your support, the expansion will include original art, more jobs, and even more mechanics. This is the time to get into Boy Problems if you haven't yet.
This campaign will run for two weeks (ERROR... >run early_access.exe - dcebrkr) 16 days with the overall goal displayed above. This will update as new tiers are hit, and there are even some stretch goals if reach them!
After the campaign, the development will begin! The full release can be expected in March 2021.
Colin Cummings (He/Him) is the founder and lead designer for Boy Problems Productions. Since 2019, he has released five tabletop projects under this label, with two of them inspired by Canadian pop artist Carly Rae Jepsen. From cyberpunk to horror, he infuses pop culture into everything he creates to span a variety of genres and tropes. As a graphic designer by trade, each project is also laid out in a unique and colourful fashion. Passionate about games and design, he is excited to share each new project with his audience and to create brand new worlds to explore.
When he isn’t futzing around with Photoshop, he can be seen telling everyone about how good Dragon’s Dogma is. His favorite CRJ song is “Run Away With Me”.
In addition to the Side-B expansion, he is working on an overhaul of Black Heart and the third game in the Carly Rae Jepsen trilogy: Warm Blood.
Lina Wu is a multi-disciplinary artist and illustrator based in Tkaronto (Toronto). Her work explores self-perception, mythology, and adolescence through mediums such as zines, games, comics, installations, paintings, and other forms of image-making.
Lina is currently in her thesis year at OCAD U, studying Illustration with a minor in English while freelancing and working part-time in arts administration. Her favourite CRJ song is “All That”. She is figuring out how to be soft and strong at the same time.
Seb Pines (they / them) is a writer, bookmaker, and game designer inspired by materials, bodies, and stories. They design games and print books with tactility and interactivity in mind and want to create stories and games that play like a Pixies song and that you can finish in an evening. Seb is in the process of finishing up their Master’s in autobiographical game design and solo games with their forthcoming publication of Dwelling in 2021 with Good Luck Press. Their favourite CRJ song is “Gimmie Love”.
Emma Mochii is a 2D and 3D game artist from Toronto. She was an artist on “Pitfall Planet” by Bonfire Games, “Fossil Hunters” by Reptoid Games, and most recently lead artist on the NFB VR project “The Book of Distance”. Though her first love is video games, she loves working on anything interactive and is especially interested in projects where games intersect with other forms of interactive media. When she’s not busy being an art nerd she plays lead guitar in the all girl alternative metal band, MONSTROSA. Her favourite CRJ song is “Black Heart”.
Kate Gray is a writer from England, living in Canada. Her writing can be found all over the internet, from Kotaku to Rock Paper Shotgun, as well as on Apple Arcade exclusive "Winding Worlds" (it's about death!) and PS5 title "Goodbye Volcano High" (it's about love! And also dinosaurs!) Her main interests, other than video games, are drinking illegal amounts of tea and cooking, which she documents on her Instagram. She writes a lot about sex, gender, and relationships in games, which means she's played Dragon Age: Inquisition more times than she can count. Her favourite CRJ song is "Window".
Ariana Tomcsak is a 2D artist and illustrator based in Oakville. She is currently freelancing while she finishes her Bachelor of Game Design. With creativity pouring from her endlessly, she loves to explore and learn all kinds of new mediums to help bring to life projects through visuals. When she is not making art or games, she is begging her two geckos and her frog for attention and love. Additionally, she really loves eggs. Her favourite CRJ song is “Fake Mona Lisa”.
Kotaku UK: "Whether or not you are a dedicated fan of the synth-pop stylings of Canada’s greatest living pop star, it’s difficult not to be struck by the earnest and positive approach that Cummings has taken after his game's success. It’s clear throughout our conversation how much these are labours of love for him, and that's probably why they resonate with people."
Jamie McKelvie (The Wicked + The Divine, Phonogram): "Finished off our game of Boy Problems by @colinmcummings tonight, and had an absolute blast. Cyberpunk heisting, double crossing, triple crossing, a gala opening of a Carly Rae Jepsen exhibition and as many CRJ lyric quotes as we could squeeze in."
