Good luck with your future projects!!

What I said on stream + more ;D
So when you die, you should keep the same scene, just add like the game over screen on top so then when you retry there isn't a lag spike for web. Another thing is that you should test it on web as that's what most people would prefer to play it on.

How to come up with a solid Idea:

I sit down with a pen and paper and write down whatever comes to mind on the theme. This Jam I came up with 4-5 ideas:

  • Doomsday countdown
  • Different rooms with countdowns
  • Bombs with different cooldowns
  • Make time countdown faster

Each one of these is a simple idea.

Take one of them, try to expand on the idea. If you have lots of good ideas, then I'd probably run with that one. If you can only think of like 1 new thing: Try to add to a different idea you had.

I ended up going with the different rooms with countdowns and I managed alot of depth.

My notes after the initial idea were me debating on controls. I thought about car, platformer, top-down, and grappling hook.
If you can, I would try to choose the most unique option for a very unique game feel :D

Anyway, I hope this shows you how much planning is important to the whole game jam process.

What your game seems to struggle with is not putting the game loop first.

The first thing you should be doing in a gamejam is making the game playable!! Me personally, I make the game endless first (like a gameloop) then I decide what I want to go with after that.

For example, Dif-Rom was a score game where the combos on the timers would just add to your score and you would try to get a highscore. I decided to make it into a game with an ending because then I could add another countdown.

I would also try to do a art form that doesn't take you too much time. It depends on how you want things to be, but I prefer the game feeling nice to play rather than spend like a whole day on art. I did all of my (poor-ish) art in like the last day because it doesn't matter to me

One last thing, don't try to make overcomplicated settings menus, most games dont' even have keymapping anyway so I wouldn't bother.

I look forward to seeing what you do next game jam!!

That was great!! Very Balatro :>

chill game, I wish I could grab onto an object and something else at the same time or also the ceiling and stuff

I raised taxes

Very Unique game! Thanks for making it!

This made me fear insomnia

I like the game feel! Also the bomb guy is so worried.

thank you!! :>

I really like the nice sounds with the terminal like visuals! I got stuck for awhile on figuring out the arrow room but then I realized. The room after the arrow one takes me so long so I didn't escape, but I liked the hidden mechanics :D

Thank you so much for playing!!! :D

Fun game! I suck at the 4 numbers puzzles though... But it was fun :D and the robot voice is cool

I survived 236 seconds and there were alot of guys shooting at me! I like how the time forces you to be aggressive and chase after the shooting guys. Although after I realized you could shoot the asteroids for time I just kept the 10x combo and went on a wild rampage. Lots of fun! Thanks for making this game :D

WOW!! Amazing!! The 3D looks solid! Unfortunately, my time as janitor is over because I was doing too good a job and ran out of the parts to properly repair everything. And the intro cutscene was so cinematic I loved it! This definitely feels like a top tier game :D

I got 3:41! The riding the busses mechanic was really. cool but they were on the wrong side of the street so I only got to use it once. The town looks really nice!

Such great art

I like the hand! I love gambling!!!! great experience!

Brilliant! I like how new things kept getting added!

It feels like it would be alot of fun if there were like cool items or like more threats.
I encourage you to keep tinkering after the jam :D

The duckies are cute

Haha the silly music as i'm about to BLOW UP

The levels take awhile to load and that is annoying when I need to go back to the menu each time.
The movement is responsive and I like the silly arm swining on the guy :D

Wow!! That was cool! I liked the story!

I like the precision platforming parts! The enemies were annoying though.

I dont wanna shoot her

I like the sounds alot! I don't like how I just hover over every card in order to see the highest number and then I play it. The letters and numbers on the face of the card are hard to read and I don't really get how they are bigger or smaller than eachother.  The waves on each card and the visuals are great! The upgrades are hard to keep track of and I don't really know if they do enough. Thanks for making a game!

Interesting concept!
I'm a bit confused on the mouse controls, but I like how the guy looks

Thanks for playing!
The music was last second so that makes sense (^_^)`

Superb! This feels like a Rhythm Heaven Minigame!! And the art is so nice!!! Very nice. :DD

I beat it with 13 deaths! half was bad memory, the other half was me trying to rush through all the electricity as fast as I could. The sounds are really nice and the levels are nicely designed. Also Oscar is such a silly guy I love him

I fell off the side and now I'm falling forever.
anyway, I think it'd be cool if you got like a boost if you were staying close to the obstacles because initially I was just flying over everything but then I got bored of that. Flying around and through the obstacles is really fun :>! Also the models are pretty and I think they mesh together well. Good first game! Good luck on your future projects :D

I like the hints on the computer! Also I barely survived the key level and that tension was fun. I died on the lever level because I didn't check the left side right away and then I couldn't jump over the monster guy.  The office things having collision was a little annoying, but I didn't experience any bugs so good job :D

This would be a great rage game if it had no checkpoints.....

(1 edit)

There should be a checkpoint before the first one, not sure what you mean by your run ending

Thank you!
I can visualize how hard it'd be on a trackpad

I'm not good at it, but very fun!

It feels nice to play!
I think it would benefit from more variety in the notes rather than all being on beat

im gonna work on an update
