Hello, you don't need to pay again to access updates, whener there is a new version on Itch you can just download it again.

We haven't made a specific linux version, however if you haven't already you can look into "Lutris" it allows you to run any windows application on linux. (I haven't tried it personally but I've heard good things)

You pay once to get the Itch.io version, our most stable public release. You don’t need to pay again, and you’ll receive all future updates.

Itch.io builds are typically a few versions behind Patreon’s developer builds, which are still in active testing.

In short, Itch.io has the most up-to-date publicly available version. Patreon builds are experimental and not yet officially released.

On dev terms:

Itch.io is the main branch, fully merged and tested.
Patreon builds are the dev branch, where we’re still pushing commits and fixing merge conflicts.

Unfortunately Steam removed the game and wont be available on that platform.

You can actually play this version on the Steam deck, you dont even need to install windows on it,  you need to add it to your Steam library as an non Steam game
